The World of Chemistry

The first thing I thought about when I found out we were learning about chemistry is that I was finally going to have experience with handling hazardous chemicals. To put it simply, I was completely wrong. We definitely did not meddle with dangerous chemicals. I'm not actually disappointed because at least we don't get scenarios where things explode in the science lab. On a more serious note, I learned quite a handful about chemistry. We tackled about the properties of matter and the changes that occur to it. Chemistry is basically also about matter. And matter is anything in the world that occupies space.

So I feel like Chemistry is such a broad subject and that it is very extensive when it comes to topics. It can go from talking about cells and DNA replication to talking about proteins and food. All in all, it's a fun topic to learn about although it could be very confusing.

PALOMARA

Chemistry is a subject I am currently learning. Everything about it intrigues me, from the terms and the meanings to the laws and the formulas. I've learned quite a lot about chemistry and this includes the lipids, the simple sugars, the saccharides and disaccharides, and many more! The thing I really like about chemistry is the saccharides and disaccharides. The fact that you add this two together to create something new is very beautiful and I want to keep learning.

Sucrose, lactose, fructose, galactose, etc. are the terms i really adore because a.) they rhyme, b.) these are the most confusing terms I want to learn about. Chemistry is a subject I want to learn about and I know I can learn it during Science time.

MARIANO

Chemistry is our current topic in science. It is a branch of physical science. It discusses about chemical reactions between substances and matter. The current lessons that we have discussed were about lipids, simple sugars, amino acids and proteins. I also learned more about the scientists who contributed a lot in chemistry.

We also made poems and songs about chemistry. There are a lot of facts and terms that my brain should learn about. I mostly thought that you should carefully understand every lesson so you wouldn't have a hard time in class. It might not be the easiest but I shouldn't stop learning about it. Chemistry is interesting to learn about if you just listen carefully to the one who is teaching you.

OASAN

This quarter, our topic is about chemistry. It has different meanings like it is the way a substance changes and reacts with other substances, it is also a strong reaction between people. It also has different terms and properties of a substance. The topic that I've never forgotten is matter. It is a material substance that occupies space, has mass, and is composed predominantly of atoms consisting of protons, neutrons, and electrons that are interconvertible with energy.

It also has three states; solid, liquid, and gas. They're things that won't last. Matter really matters because it is used and observed in our daily lives. So, I really want to learn more about chemistry because we all know that it is really complicated because of its terms that all have the same sound.
SARMIENTO

What I learned about chemistry is that it is a branch of physical science that studies the composition, structure, properties, and change of matter. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear chemistry are substances, and the 3 forms of matter which are solid, liquid, and gas. I've learned a lot from the discussions like the saccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and other terms. I've learned that chemistry is also applied on how our body works. Such as how the sugar in the body works.

I also learned that chemistry comes from alchemy, which is referred to as an earlier set of practices that encompassed elements of chemistry, metallurgy, philosophy, astrology, astronomy, mysticism, and medicine. It is often seen as linked to the quest to turn lead or another common starting material into gold.

I learned so much about saccharides, monosaccharides, lactose, sucrose and many more. This third quarter is one heck of a quarter and a fast one. But it was fun studying chemistry, I will surely miss this quarter because it was the most fun so far this school year in my opinion at least, and I am looking forward to know and learn more about these chemistry related things in the near future and it would be a delight if Mr. Dolor is still our science teacher next year.

Poems About Chemistry

There are so many things one could say about Chemistry. What we learned, how we feel about it, how we relate it in our everyday lives and so much more. What better way is there than to express yourself through poetry? Here we have poems that talk about Chemistry that we made ourselves. Enjoy!

TAKING ON THE WORLD WITH CHEMISTRY
by: Danielle Palomara

Chemistry deals with matter
And this can make our life better.
No, don't let your brain shatter
Just catch all the information before they scatter.

We all know matter is anything that occupies space
And if you didn't, then oh, what a disgrace.
You can't learn everything in just one place
But don't you worry for life isn't a race.

Now remember all the things you learn
Don't let it all go to waste and burn
Now, if you want your life to take a good turn
One must stay focused and stern.

CHEMISTRY AND I
by: Maxene Mariano

You stayed in my memories
Never giving me false stories
You burned in my mind,
But it was one of a kind.

I could never forget,
For you came like a comet.
You came, crashing into me,
But i stood as still as a tree

I took it all in,
For everything you say is true
Even though I started turning blue
I still held onto you.

Your theories are a pain
And chaos is in my brain
For you give me knowledge,
But you are truly good,
Which is another form of food.

CHEMISTRY
by: Tricia Sarmiento

There's a lot of changes
Physical change
Atom change
Chemical change

There are three states of matter
Which do you think is better?
Are things that won't last;
Solid, Liquid, and Gas.

Matter really matters
But some things just don't matter
It is used in our daily lives
Which is also important to other people's lives.

WHAT I FEEL ABOUT CHEMISTRY
by: Anika Oasan

Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemistry
A branch of Science I have hated
I should really learn and study
So I won't have grades that are grated

Matter, Elements, and Reactions
These are the things my brain should swallow
It might turn my brain into fractions,
But it will not turn into hollow.

I might understand formulas now
If i would study all the equations
Now in class I wouldn't have to bow,
I now know all the preparations.

THE KEY
by: Sean Salcedo

I got chemistry
Got a lot of chemistry
Got a lot of people
Trying to crash me from this energy

We solve for V
Because chemistry is the key
Chemistry is everywhere
How can we not see

Chemistry has so many laws
They ain't got a single flaw
If you don't agree, I'll break your jaw
That'll leave the crowd in awe.

WHAT IS CHEMISTRY
by: Axel Geronimo

What is Chemistry?
It has been our lesson lately
We need it to make our relationship more lovely
Although it is related to biology

Biology? I dislike biology!
But wait a minute, our topic is chemistry
I should start mixing substances carefully
And do the whole process joyfully

You don't have to worry
Chemistry won't treat you harshly
As long as you study and study
And let the substances mix into you gracefully.

Creating Our Infographics

The infographic I made showcased the topic of protein denaturation. I provided pictures and facts for further understanding of protein denaturation. I also provided examples of protein denaturation that could be observed in our everyday life. I found it fun to do this performance task because I enjoyed looking for fun ways to showcase the topic given to me. Although I had a bit of trouble with having it printed and laminated, I'm happy I got it done and submitted on time.
PALOMARA

The infographic that I made is about the factors affecting the rate of reaction, I must say that making an infographic was really fun and interesting, but I had a difficult time at first because I didn't know where and how to start and when I laminated it, it cost me forty pesos but it was alright because I already finished it and submitted it to our teacher Mr. Dolor. All in all, I'm happy I finished my work and got to pass something instead of nothing at all.
SALCEDO

The topic of my infographic was about phospholipids. Phospolipids is a very important type of lipid. It provides structure and protection to cells. Finding information about phospholipids wasn't very hard. I found a lot of information about it in my book and on the internet. Making the infographic wasn't hard, it was actually pretty fun for me. All I needed was the correct information and a good design for it.
OASAN

Making an infographic was quite hard for me. First i had to think for a poem about chemistry. With my little knowledge about the topic, it made it more difficult for me so it took me longer than expected to finish my poem. Then after few hours, I had to search for information about a certain topic in chemistry. Which was about collision theory. It wasn't so hard because i used the internet to look for information about it. Afterwards, I did a few editing to make my infographic look appealing, and then I printed it then laminated it. Making infographics was quite fun since after doing it with such hard work looking at it makes you feel like you achieved something good.
GERONIMO

Products of our Hard Work!
The topic of my infographic is reactions of equilibrium (reversible reaction). At first, I was really having a hard time on how to start making my infographics but thank God google helped me with examples and then finally, i got an idea on how to arrange or design my infographics. Its just simple but, at least there's a lot of information and all. It was really nice and a little bit hard but I also learned something from it. After that, I printed it out and laminated it and its not that expensive. On the downside, I submitted it to Sir Dolor when the classes resumed from Christmas break because I forgot to pass it last year because of the midterms and other projects.
SARMIENTO

The infographics that Sir Dolor assigned to me was actually a bit easy to make and it's all about the protein structures. The primary protein structure, the secondary protein structure, the tertiary protein structure, etc. I know for a fact that the infographics I made is easy to understand. During my time creating the infographics, I learned quite a lot. I also had fun while making it! All in all, the infographics was a knowledgeable and fun performance task.

CHEERS TO A NEW YEAR!

2016 has been a good year for us. We've created new memories and learned a lot of new things. We've also experienced a lot of challenges that we thought we would fail to surpass but thankfully, with the help of God, we have faced these problems without fear and with full bravery. Of course, we would also like to thank our teachers for sticking with us throughout the year, and for teaching us how to value our education. For 2017, we hope for a great and memorable year. A year of changing for the better and for achieving our goals or dreams in life and of course, we hope to learn and expand our knowledge more with help not only from our teachers, but from all the other people around us as well. All of these things are possible if we put our mind and heart into it. Remember, if one day seems too much, just take an hour at a time and if an hour is too much, just take a minute at a time and eventually, you'll accomplish all the things you're hoping for. Here's to a year of spreading love and happiness! God bless us all!
